Recently, I was out swimming with my wife and some of her family in Lake Superior where the waves were particularly large. These conditions made it especially fun to be swimming at the time. As the waves would come in, we would jump into them and ride the waves as far towards shore as they would take us. If we chose not to jump into the waves they would almost if not completely knock us off our feet. We basically had a choice to make each time we saw a wave approaching, resist it or embrace it.
These waves symbolized life in some ways to me. If we think about it, life sends waves our way when we least expect it. The waves can come in the form of personal, family, or possibly even career forms. Waves in our lives often come at unexpected times when we least expect it. However, one thing remains the same and that is the waves do come and we can either ignore them or embrace them. If we refuse to accept them, they still happen. But if we take them in stride and figuratively jump into them like we were doing at the beach then we have the best odds of adapting ourselves to whatever life sends our ways.
